I hate going to he dentist as much as pretty much everyone else on the planet. I had a tooth crack back in high school that was about a third the size and had a nice not so little hole. I finally got it looked at today. I'm 20 now. If you are wondering why it took this long to get it looked at you can blame my ever so wonderful parents. If they had spent a little less time fighting over the responsibilities they both share I wouldn't have gotten the news that I got today. My tooth can't be saved. It's the last tooth on the bottom row. I'm upset that I'm going to be a toothless freak and angry that my parents could have prevented all of this. So this month is possibly the worst I've had in quite a long time. At least this month I'm getting 2 brambleberry packages so I can at least make soap during my fun time appointment filled month. Maybe I'll make a small soap shaped like a tooth and stick that in the gap!

The moral of the story is if you can't get along with the spouse don't take it out on the kids. They pick the nursing home you'll be in for the end years.

I'm sorry to hear that. Can the dentist save a part of the tooth and build an artificial one over the top of it?

If it is the last tooth on the bottom and in the back.... I think you may be the only one who knows its gone? Be thankful that it is not one of your front teeth. I have no problem going to the dentist, but not my DH, he cancels nearly every apt he or I make!

I have two molars removed, second from last on each side on the bottom. also one of my eye teeth but that one was crowded out so its not even noticeable its gone. No one notices the molars that are gone either, and it's actually had very little impact on eating or anything like that. Besides when a chip or something else pointy stabs me in the empty space :x lol

My parents were like that too, but mine had to be taken care of when I was a teenager because the tops had literally broken off and that was super painful and troublesome. Not to mention risk of infection and all that jazz. But root canals for both couldn't be afforded, probably couldn't even have afforded 1, so both were just removed.

Later when its more affordable you could always look into getting an implant.

It's unbelievable. I'm covered by my mom until I'm 26 by NJ state insurance, which is supposed to be pretty sweet. I mean, how many plans beat state coverage? Yet somehow things that apply to me are almost never covered. My birth control- not covered. Caps- not covered. Braces/Invisalign- not covered. What do you cover?! I swear the only thing that has been covered was the pain killers I have to take when I get pinch nerves. But I'm pretty sure it's only because I am unable to move or even lay straight. Otherwise I'm sure they'd cut that too. I hate insurance companies.

I think a lot of dental insurance just tends to be sucky some how. My husband is a disabled veteran, while he was still in of course I had military/government insurance which pretty much cannot be beat. As long as there was a medical reason why I needed something or needed to see a certain doctor, it was covered and I never paid a dime. The dental insurance though paled in comparison. Only covered like 1500 a year, and with how expensive pretty much any dental procedure is, that does not actually go very far if you need anything besides routine cleanings.

You will not be a toothless freak. I had 9 teeth pulled last year as I am deathly afraid of going to the dentist and had not been since I was a teenager. I am now 36. None of them were front teeth and four of them were wisdom teeth. I still eat fine and would eventually like to get them replaced but it is expensive. Even with insurance. If it needs to be pulled then get it pulled. It's not the end of the world. It is amazing to me how much of your health is tied to your teeth. I was always feeling bad and then viola! Teeth pulled, feel better instantly.

Dental insurance is such an entirely different ball park. It's true that even if you have great health insurance, dental and vision often pale in comparison. You are unlikely to miss the molar in the back though and nobody will be able to tell but you and your dentist.

I told my family I'm going to melt down the last of my Shea M&P and make a tooth shaped soap and stick that in!

Nobody will ever know the difference :D

Got back from the dentist at noonish. I was in and out in 20 minutes. I didn't even need stitches! The guy was really nice and gave me a brochure on caring for my ghost tooth for the next few days.

The next three days are a diet of soup, applesauce and YooHoo! Life is pretty good.
