So I'm planing a batch of goat milk and honey soap with colloidal oatmeal bits. I know you have to keep the soap at room temp or below to prohibit the milk curdling. I also know that honey heats up the soap during sap, so what should I do and how should I do it?

I put my milk and/or honey soaps in the freezer (uncovered) overnight. Then I take them out the next morning and let it sit in the mold for a couple days.

I forgot to add that with the milk, I freeze that until slushy before sprinkling my lye on it. My honey, I heat up so it's fluid and add it at trace. It seems to blend in easier that way.

Somewhere online another soap maker was adding honey to her soap. She diluted it with some of her water (heat it up then blend together into a honey syrup) then added at trace. It works beautifully!

I let my milk soaps gel to their hearts content. It tends to get hot enough that I can't even pick up the mold LOL. You don't HAVE to stop gel in a milk soap. Gelling a milk soap will change the colour some (makes mine a bit darker, but also more translucent), and you need to watch it to make sure it doesn't overheat (watch for cracks, and toss it in the freezer if you see any to avoid volcanoes!) I've never heard of milk in soap curdling before.

I'll try it without heating it. Thanks!

I put it in the freezer after it turned into liquid. it got hot and then turned like water. after I put it in the freezer it set up fine but it's dark brown no bad smell or anything and lathers well. I think I hot processed it and that's why it's dark.

I used a milk in the oil method with 1/2 milk in my recipe. When I poured the batter it was at trace and looked beautiful.
when I put the lid on it because I was not thinking it turned into liquid and overheated. So I popped it into the freezer to save it. When I did this What I mean by "I think I hot processed it" I mean that it got hot that it was doing what hot process soap does it was coming up the sides and trying to fold into the center. But I stopped it. So I now have these bars of dark soap that work just fine and are pretty creamy lather just look like african black soap and is heavy on the honey smell. which is fine.

Anytime you add any type of a sugar ie: milk or honey, this can make the soap hotter. It goes into gel faster and can overheat. Next time don't insulate it and keep an eye on it so it doesn't overheat. If that starts to happen, elevate the mold and put a fan on it, or put it in the fridge.
