Teach Soap

So in all of my genius I forgot to order isopropyl alcohol from brambleberry! My first melt and pour project and I Forgot the all important alcohol! So quick question: Does it need to be 99%? Will anything lower work?

I use the generic 91% isopropyl alcohol from the drug store.

Any pharmacy should have 97%. I get mine at the grocery.

Around here, more and more they are carrying the 71% only. The drug stores and Cosco (when they aren't out) still carry the 91% RA.

71% still works fine for reducing/stopping ash. I had to get some from big lots (next door to work hehe), and they only carry 71%. I haven't had any ashy soaps while using it.

Your question brings up a question for me. I'm very new to soap making, I've made one batch which I think came out pretty well. In reference to your comments about Isopropyl alcohol, the recipe I used did not list or call for any type of alcohol. Is this something that should be used when making any CP soap and if so when is it added to the mix and what function does it do?
