Teach Soap

Here's what I made today:



This is a 100% coconut oil, with 20% Superfat. This is based off the tutorial on SoapQueen.com.

This was my first multi-colored soap, and I'm pretty happy with the way it looks. Can't wait to unmold it tonight!

Bad news, friends. I let my Pink Lemonade Mantra sit in the mold for six hours, like the tutorial said, and when I tried to cut it into bars, this happened:



I'm so disappointed, and I have to admit, I cried a little. But, I'm trying to remember that every failure is just a learning opportunity to do better next time.

But it was SO pretty!

Ack! Sorry to see that your pretty soap went crumbly I always un-mold my 100% coconut soap after no more than 2 hours. Usually I do things the easy way and use individual bars, so I don't have to worry about the soap getting to the crumbly stage. I use the from BB.

The bright side is that you now know something new! And you can always rebatch the soap if you like. (I know, I know, it still REALLY REALLY sucks, just trying to be all "the glass is half full!")

Nova, the colors are so pretty, I would do what Irena suggested... shred it and put it into another bar!

I'm still feeling a little bummed about this soap crumbling apart, but you're right... I can still save it in a container, and use it in a future project!

I really like the way the color turned out, so that's something positive I can take away from this.

I'm sorry about the crumbling, NoVaSoap! It was beautiful soap. You can make another batch and unmold/cut it sooner. Irena's idea to use this batch will help make the loss a little easier too.

Here's the result of my first ITP swirl:

I tried again, and it came out much better this time! It was still too soft after two hours, so I unmolded and cut after four.

100% coconut sure is tricky to work with!

100% coconut gels fast and needs to be cut fast. Otherwise it crumbles.

100% coconut IS hard to work with! That's why I started to use the individual molds, soooo much easier!
