Has anyone ever done a very small amount of soap? Is it done any differently? How much lavender EO would you use for 8 ozs

Definitely measure everything in grams. BB's fragrance calculator suggests 10g of lavender EO for 8 oz. of cp soap

The smallest I've ever done was a pound of soap and even with that I had to be super careful to make sure that I was absolutely weighing everything accurately. It's way too easy to get a lye heavy soap with smaller batches.

How much Lavender EO you should use also depends on what kind of Lavender it is.
Brambleberry has a nifty FO/EO calculator http://www.brambleberry.com/Pages/Fragr ... lator.aspx

Thank you for the help. The lavender that I have is from whole foods. I think it is Now brand.

The smallest batch I would make is one lb. converted into grams. Unless you have an extremely accurate scale, I would not attempt an 8 oz. batch. I use 0.7 oz. per lb. of soap, so half of that would be 0.35 oz.

0.04 oz is the max amount of lavender you can use for 0.8 oz, but I would change that to grams and I would make a one pound batch like everyone else said. If you do that 0.8 oz is the max amount of lavender eo you can use.

When you were asked about what type of lavender, you answered with a brand. I would not use an eo purchased from whole foods or a craft store, but even those should identify the type of lavender it is. You are looking for the scientific name, such as "angustifolia" "spike" "40/42" or "officinalis" However, for lavender, I am pretty sure that they are all the same in bar soap, 5% max and you use your oil amount to calculate the weight % of scent.
