Hello :)
I am a newbie to this forum and to the CP soap making as well... As i cut my loaf - i saw some stuff oozing from the middle... what could it be and what is wrong? The recipe was 5.67 oz of Coconut, 6.55 oz of Olive, 6.11 oz of Canola, 5.67 oz of Palm, water 7.92 oz and lye 3.34 accordingly to Lye calculator... no gelling, I put the mold in the fridge. I tried this recipe in other batches, and all were good... is the batch ruined? I was going to proudly show it off in the other topic and now this :(

And another newbie question: Will I have more time to work with swirls if i add a bit more water to the recipe? If yes, how much in %% and when - to the lye - water of right after the trace? (I probably sound like crazy, but I am officially obsessed with CP soap and overwhelmed with tons of info)
Thank you! :)

At what temp did you soap at? Did you reach true trace? Did you add any fragrance? I would check for zap. Dampen your finger, then lightly touch the oozy spot. then touch your finger to your tongue. Does is zap? If so, and every thing was measured correctly, I would rebatch. I'm not close to a soap lye calc, so I can't check your recipe for you.
The Sage Lye calculator, give you a water variance. I would go with the higher end of what they recommend.

My lye water was at about 135 and oils are about 120... the trace was true but light (i did swirls in the pot) and i used this oils recipe before without any problem. I used Cranberry Fig FO from BB, 2 oz per 2 lb batch - is it too much?
Zap test unconclusive... nothing zaps, the taste is soapy and very parfumey, the oozing stuff dries but looks different in color and softer then the rest of the soap. It looks like a cavity in the middle of the bottom filled with liquid (the sides are OK). Could it be unblended FO?
About gelling: I tried not to gel and put the mold in the fridge, but it still partially gelled in the middle, where the cavity happen ...

This accident actually ruined only 4 out of 8 bars and i guess i can just cut out the bottom of those 4 bars... I would like to make sure it's not a bad soap :) I just re-do the zap test - definitely no zap and a lot of perfume...

Did you use perfume or an undiluted fragrance oil?

I guess it was just fragrance oil... $5.46 for 2 oz. It says nothing about diluting... should i have done that?

What I meant by my comment was if you bought an actual perfume at a perfume counter or a fragrance oil from a vendor. Fragrance oils are used as they are in safe % in soap. If it doesn't zap and taste more like a fragrance oil, that could be it.

BTW. I've had soap overheat; even in the fridge.

I think I did not blend the FO in well enough (i was in hurry to make the swirls)... and not-blended part separated ... note to myself: make sure the fragrance is fully blended in  :)
And about overheating: I decided to always gel just because it's hard to avoid it even when the mold is in the fridge... and partial gelled soap is the worst because it's uneven in color...
I still have so many things to learn and discover and I am so excited about it! So much fun :)
Thank you! :)

I'm glad you figured it out.
