I was at a high end spa on Saturday and was looking at their sugar scrubs and the ingredients listed Vodka. What is the reason for putting Vodka in the scrubs?

Nothing, just label appeal. Technically we're not suppose to sell anything made with any type of liquor like vodka, since the Bureau of tobacco and alcohol doesn't get its share of profits when it sells.

Usually vodka is used in sprays, facial serums and other recipes as a "natural" preservative. There is generally a very small amount in there and it will not really affect your skin anymore so than witch hazel. It is also used in making some tinctures, especially in the Appalachian area, where people really don't order from cosmetic ingredient supply houses.

you certainly could be right Irena, but a lot of people don't know the actual % needed and just use whatever they think should work. I used to know someone who added a "splash" to everything to preserve it. Just that, a "splash". Lol Really, it's just like the people who add eo's & fo's based on their smell alone, never knowing the actual max rate they should use. So who knows? But either way, I don't think I'd run out to purchase one.
