I made a batch of goat milk soap about 7 weeks ago.when I did it I make sure the lye was dissolved I added honey @ trace. It looked white and today I used it. It is super creamy but notice that does not lather as much and this is what's weird, It looks, feels and have what it looks like crystals or salt. I use the strips to check the PH and I got number 8. Is this soap good to use or does anyone have an idea why does it look and feel like I add something to exfoliate? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks :|

What was your recipe and how much did you superfat? Did you reach a true trace? You can do a zap test. Dampen your finger with water. Touch one of the crystals. then touch that finger to your tongue. Does it zap? If it does, it's lye that hasn't dissolved; most likely from soaping with GM at cooler temps. Rinse your mouth out with water after.

This is the recipe
5.9 oz Shea butter
5.9 oz palm oil 2.8 oz lye
3.9 oz coconut oil 7.4 oz goat frozen milk
3.9 oz olive oil 1 tbsp of honey @trace
.98 oz castor oil
I did the test this morning and no zap. I went over this and I did not super fat or discount lye.
Do you think i need to get rid of the soap? Is it to late to rebatch? Thank u for all your help. Sincerely Cecilia.

You have to superfat; otherwise the soap will be harsh and drying. For that size batch you would need 5 to 8 fluid ounces of liquid (water or milk) and 2.7 ozs. of lye. This is a small recipe. For best results, convert your ounces into grams. Do you have an accurate scale?

Looks like you did superfat. 2.8 ozs. of lye is about 5.5% superfat. I would go with a teaspoon of honey instead of 1 tablespoon. That much honey in a small batch can make your soap overheat. You have over 28% shea butter. Shea butter at that rate will not give you much bubbles.

Since it has crystals in it, I would rebatch to be on the safe side.
