Teach Soap

I got inspired by Hestey's video the other day showing the peacock swirl so when I was unmolding the BB vertical mold where I tried mylar lining, I stopped and grabbed the video camera.

Great video Robert! I like the upbeat music. And you were easy to hear over it, direct and to the point. I was wondering if the mylar can be folded/creased to fit a slab mold? That would be fantastic not to have to cut freezer paper all the time. TIA

Can you find Mylar in craft stores? That vertical mold looks just like mine with the soap all over the inside of the wood...lol. It takes me forever to unmold the vertical mold (and I use Cyclomethicone). I end up taking one side off, let it sit another day, take another side off, let it sit again. Takes 4 days to unmold, I love the look, but it's a pain.

I haven't tried bending mylar. It's quite strong so I think you'd have trouble making clean creases. The second piece that I bought is for a HDPE slab mold- but i only plan on lining the bottom, which is near impossible to get off without lining. I've never had problems with the sides if I use the slide-off-using-the-edge-of-a-counter method instead of pulling. If you need to line the sides, I'd cut separate pieces. I don't know if that would work well for wood. You'd need to try it. My guess is that it would work fine, but you'd likely have to clean the wood off from the leaks in the seams. I'm okay with my wood molds getting dirty. They clean up just fine scraping excess soap off then using a wet sponge.

It was so easy to unmold, it surprised the heck out of me.

You can fold mylar, but you need specific tools! Either a metal boning tool or an exacto knife. The boning tool takes a while to bend the mylar, but is the easier method. You just have to go over the crease line a whole bunch of times. With the exacto knife you cut 1/2 way through the back side of the mylar and bend it so the cut is on the outside.
