But none of the three lotions I made three-ish months ago have any sign of black ick in them at all.

I'm not testing them at this point (as I am still formulating, and am the only one using them), but I know if they had contamination, by now, it would be glaringly obvious. And I am using a preservative, Germall Plus, I think. (None of the lotions are in front of me as I'm typing this.)

One problem I am having is deciding which of them I like best - I like them all!

Still have several recipes to play with before I make a final decision, then they will be tested and out to people to try them and report the results.

But, so far, so good!

Congrats on your batches of lotion! Isn't it amazing to see one come together as it emulsifies?!

I'm not sure I have a single lotion that I like best, because I like different types for different purposes. I make one as a shaving cream that mimics Dermalogica's products, one for my hands to moisturize, etc. I figure as I get more experience and try new formulas, I'll have more varieties that I like for particular purposes.

I watched a TED talk on YouTube the other day called Choice, Happiness and Spaghetti Sauce by Malcolm Gladwell (). It was a really interesting talk about how people who make products can improve overall customer satisfaction. The argument is that there isn't any one "perfect" product for people. Rather, there are perfect products. Plural. It explained why we see 15 different varieties of a product on the market like Coke, Coke Zero, etc.

I am not trying to be a Debbie downer, but just a reminder Anita, you cannot see colonization with the naked eye until it is massively engaged. Especially when you are using a preservative, the growth could be present and not be seen for quite some time. Now if you didn't have a preservative, you would see it a lot sooner, but still, it can be there with a preservative and just be stunted, or slow growing (if the preservative is working some, but not completely effectively). So yes, keep your fingers crossed and be optimistic about it working, but remember that you cannot know for sure until you test.
