Currently I have insurance from soapguild and my membership is due to expire next month. Looking into the Indie Beauty and it costs a little more. What are the pros and cons of each?

I thought Soap Guild was a little expensive so I went with RLI. You can just buy straight liability insurance but I went with the home business insurance. Very happy with them though admittedly I've never made a claim. Good luck!

I need to get liability insurance, and wonder which out of the three are best also. With Indie & Soapguild you also have to pay a membership right? Do you have to do that with RLI? and is there a link for RLI, or if I simply google RLI, will I find this? (Duh here, sorry... just very tired too )

Here is a link about soap insurance. I believe that the sales cap for RLI is $5,000. As soon as you make that many sales, you will need to switch. There is no member fee for RLI.

Are you planning on attending the annual soap guild conference? There's a $200 difference in cost if you're not a member. Next year I think it's in Arizona.

I'm hearing some folks mention moving away from the soap guild to indie because they're pissed at the guild's poor lobbying/stances on issues important to our industry. Not because the insurance wasn't good.

There are some other options out there. I've heard of people handling it through their Safeco policy. What is the other popular choice, Brower? If I remember correctly, they're priced about in between RLI and guild/indie. I think I priced out something like $350. No memberships, it's an insurance company. Ok, so please excuse my lack of knowledge here, but is there a special type of liability insurance I should be looking for? I was looking into getting business insurance through my insurance company I have my home and auto from. I haven't looked at their rates yet as I am not that far along yet, but I did look to see what they cover. They will cover pretty much everything.

Amber, check out the link Soapbuddy posted above to an article on it by Anne-Marie. It's a great overview of the issues & options.

RLI does not have an income cap on the home business insurance, though I don't know about the straight liability insurance. It does allow making wax tarts but not candles.

I know the voices in my head aren't real, but they sure have some great ideas!

I saw there's a $100 Soap Guild Professional membership if you want to be a member but get insurance elsewhere. I know they send you a waiver form - does anyone know what that entails? Do you have to send them copies/proof of current business insurance?
