The Y chromosome defect group seem to only like playing "what's that smell" game when they are the ones with the smells Frankly, I like our smells WAY better than those!

Yep, another Y chromosome things for sure! At least you had good soap for him to clean up his act with!

Having raised boys, I am quite familiar with the Y chromosome defects. To this day though, my youngest wins the "smell this" contest for his atomic bombs in the car, (moving from one state to another) which woke his older brother from a sound sleep , nearly made me pass out , and lasted for almost two states with the windows all down! I threatened to tie him to the roof (which was more of a promise than a threst, believe me ) if he attempted to "sneak" anything else out!
They are men now, and seem quite "proud" whenever recalling this incident, which is annual at least. Only the Y chromosome would be proud of a gastrointestinal event years in the past. Just not something and XX can appreciate...and why would we seems a reasonable question to me.... .

Shoot, the fact that you have hair (assuming you do) all that all the Y chromosome defects are still alive and breathing in your home is, in and of itself, something to be proud of! Not every woman can maintain her sanity, much less teach a daughter to hold her own, so heck yea, BE PROUD!!!!

Anchors, middle notes, top notes...? Do you have a book or website that you recommend of the subject of FO and EO blending.

Sorry Michell, I really don't. In fact, there is a LOT of misinformation out there for sure. I do like and respect Robert Tisserand though. He has a web site and is a world renown teacher/authority on essential oils. He does a lot of seminars and offers some over the internet at times. He also has some books (some are used as text books) that are full of great info, but I don't think there is one that is specific to blending (although there may be...).

As for what each eo is, a top, middle or base note, some suppliers do offer that info. You can often tell yourself too, by when the note evaporates or leaves the nose (although some people's noses are much more refined than others). Of course it is more complex, but simply put, a top note is fleeting, a middle note stays a bit longer and the base note is the one you are left with. It is deep and the last to hit your nose as well as the last to leave. Patchouli, vetiver and the like are base notes, while lavender is a middle note and citrus are top notes. Practice smelling blends and discerning the notes and you may be able to train yourself to distinguish the notes.

TOP NOTE
The top note is immediately detectable, due in large part to the fact that it is evaporating quickly and so is more evident. Poucher determined that top notes fell within a rating of 1 to 15.
By way of example, here are some rates of popular top notes:
Mandarin = 2
Coriander = 3
Nutmeg = 11

The middle note lasts longer than the top note and has the advantage of mixing with the top note to begin with, and leads into the base note at the end of its phase.Middle notes generally develop within 10 minutes and can last as long as hours. Middle notes tend to be rich in florals. Poucher's classification system rates middle notes as being between 16 and 69. Some examples of middle notes are:
Marjoram = 18
Clove Bud = 22
Jonquil absolute = 24
Ylang-Ylang absolute = 24
Rose absolute = 43
Tuberose absolute = 43
Jasmine absolute = 43

BASE NOTE
The base note is the longest lived of all the notes. However, in spite of coming "last", it is arguably the most important choice in your blend. The base note is present throughout the other two notes. While it is not noticeably detectable until the others have evaporated, it has affected and altered all of the scents contained in the blend. The change of the base note fragrance can radically alter the perfume.Base notes are notable because of their longevity. Base notes may also be thought of as "fixatives".

Some examples of base notes listed in Perfumes, Splashes & Colognes are: Galbanum resin = 90 Propanax resin = 90 Angelica = 94 Fixatives = 100 Frankincense Benzoin Patchouli Sandalwood Oakmoss Tonka bean Vetiver Balsam Copaiba resin balsam of Judea balm of Gilead balm of Peru Tolu balsam.
