a couple of weeks ago i tried making a mojito blend and it ended up just smelling like spearmint..Now one of my coworkers wants me to make a soap for her but she likes a fresh clean scent..i was thinking maybe lavender and rosemary , rosemary and lemongrass

if i use a citrus like lemongrass will it stay around in the soap..ive seen on websites to add clay but i did add clay to that soap and the lime scent still faded

and tips or suggestions

i was thinking maybe if i soaped at 100 degrees to have the oils a little colder and avoiding gel would help..but as far as anchoring ..i did the clay thing and it didnt really work for me

Lemongrass is not a citrus. You should be fine using it. As far as Lime, you need the folded Lime 5X or 10X.

I recently had the same issue with my refreshing citrus soap, which has orange 5x and ylang in it. The bars were fabulous but the fresh scent didn't stick. I researched and found that white clay helps with this problem so I tried it and man was I surprised how well it worked. This is one of my new fav soaps now:) and its one of the few my husband also raves about(he's doesn't normally say much about my soaps, just uses them to get clean)Not only is white clay good for the skin but I may be adding it to all my EO soaps with problem EO's.

you would need an anchor oil such as listea cubia (sp?) that would help citrus essential oils stick.

Litsea (May Chang), Vetiver and Patchouli are all good anchors.

FWIW:

I have found NG's Lime Cilantro to stick quite well. The cilantro aspect is not really strong - I have had both those who love and hate cilantro smell it - nobody thinks to guess cilantro. Its a pretty strong lime.

to have a citrus eo stick you need to add an anchor. Either a base note, such as the ones that Soap Buddy mentioned, or a clay or orris root powder. Using a 5 or 10x folded one helps, but you still need an anchor I feel, just not maybe as much of one as you do when you use a regular steam distilled eo.

And lemongrass is not a citrus, but is a perennial grass, so it needs no anchor. Litsea is also an anchor and it smells like a citrus, so it is easily incorporated into many blends, so you may want to try that.

How much white clay would you add to soap recipe? I usually make it in 4# batches. I have been wondering this myself for quite some time.... The citrus scent is great and last a long time on the skin in the liquid soaps I make but not the bars. I am glad I found this site.
