It DOES take a bit of time to figure it all out. Took me 3 days to figure out how much it cost me to make 9 different products! I have a spreadsheet showing how much I paid for each product and how much product I got for that price (including containers, lids, etc).
Then I have a separate sheet with each product I am making and finished product size/weight. It shows how much of each ingredient I need and how much it will cost.
For example: say I bought 32oz of coconut oil for $5 and I am using 2 oz in a product. I divide 32 (the amount I purchased) by 2 (the amount I am using per product) and get 16. This means I can make 16-2oz products. So, to figure the cost, I divide 5 (the price I paid for the amount I purchased) by 16 (the number of uses I get from it) and get 0.31. This means it costs me $0.31 in coconut oil for each product I make.
I do this with each ingredient, label, etc and add up the total costs for them, fees, and equipment for a final price.
Hope this helps!
