There are 6 different formats you can use (4 using simple names, 2 using latin and simple names) - and you are allowed to use multiple formats on a single ingredient list. An ingredient just has to match at least one of the format listings. This is from page 68 in Marie's book (2nd ed.).
So for example, the following are both okay:
Ingredients: Water, Coconut Oil, Apricot Kernel (Prunus armeniaca) Oil, Sweet Almond Oil. Ingredients: Water, Coconut Oil, Apricot Kernel Oil, Sweet Almond Oil. ...
That gives you a lot of ways to list your ingredients. Given that there are really 3 very distinct formats, you end up 3 raised to the nth power where n = # of ingredients. So in the 4 ingredient list above, there would be 3^4 or 81 different ways you could write that ingredient list.
The important thing is to make it clear to the consumer what's in the product.
