Anyone ever make a facial scrub with these ingredients? What did you like/dislike about it and how much did you use???? Thinking about experimenting with some face scrubs and different ingredients, these being 2 I have no experience with and would like some input! Thanks!

I used a pumice soap on my face once, long ago. Once is all it took to figure out that pumice + face = scratchy pain. Even really finely ground pumice is scratchy.

As for bamboo extract, that's quite a bit softer than pumice. I've never used it on my face, but I think it wouldn't be too bad. Although I prefer jojoba beads for facial scrubs.

Thanks Genny! I WAS worried about the pumice being a bit harsh for the face. I have a friend ask me if I could make her a facial scrub out of sea salt, so maybe I will just stick with that (the safe stuff) lol

Sea salt might be a little too scratchy as well unless it's finely ground. All those darn jagged edges.

I've heard tapioca pearls work nicely, too.

Strong scrubs can create micro tears on your face. I would not use pumice or salt. The bamboo extract maybe, if it's very finely ground.

I've used BB's bamboo powder in a facial soap and it works really well. I've also used lemon peel powder with good results. They're both very fine and not scratchy at all.

I agree with Linda, the bamboo powder from BB is nice for a face scrub. A lot of powders can be scratchy on the face though, even when you think they are soft in your hands. Experimentation is a good thing! So try some small batches of a lot of different ingredients and see what you think and feel. Anything you find too strong for your face can always be used as a body scrub, so no wasted materials!
Enjoy the journey~

The bamboo extract on BB is what gave me the idea to use it in a face scrub. I have lots of ideas and plenty of experimenting planned. I've been doing a lot of research on oils and other ingredients that will give me the results I'm looking for. It's just a matter of figuring out which ones work the best for what I want.

What would be a good base for general face scrub??? I was thinking about mango butter, but it's a bit pricey.

I don't use butters for face scrubs, I use soap. I prefer plain soap, a face mask, or a gently exfoliating soap for the face. Some people use sugar or salt scrubs, but I agree with Irena, I think they are too harsh. But I prefer butters for moisturizing and don't feel they are the right thing for a facial scrub.
Everyone is different though, so experiment away and find what you prefer!

Mango butter does not exfoliate. It's not meant to.

Nope, no butter exfoliates, I thought maybe you were planning on adding an exfoliant into the butter, which I would not do. Butters are great for moisturizing though. Cranberry seeds and apricot seeds are also used in exfoliating products at times. I like them for body scrubs, but I don't care for those on my face either. Something else for you to try out though. I think your monthly purchase plan sounds like a good idea. Have fun and enjoy the journey!
