If you rinse the soap under running water right before you go to use it, it will lather better.

I mean the first day ill use it and it doesnt seem to lather that much...it just seems to me that as you continue to use the soap day after day the lather gets better..like using it the third day the soap seems to produce more lather than it did the first day

Yes, the lather will improve as saponification is completed. This can take a couple of days, depending on your process.

Cold process soaps should cure for a minimum of 4-6 weeks (6 months or more for a true castile).

I think I misread your comment. The longer you can wait, the better the soap becomes. Brand new soap will be pretty drying and won't lather much.

Lather also depends a lot on your recipe. Some oils/butters don't produce much bubbly lather, but have a nice creamy stable lather. The trick is to get a good balance between bubbly and creamy. 8)

I add cocoa butter to almost every bar of soap I make and I have great lather. As Linda said, it is a balancing act. You can use cocoa butter, you just have to tweak the ingredients to walk that line of lather and creaminess. :)
Using your soap before a 4 week cure at minimum will rob you of knowing the true quality of your soap. The patience is well worth the effort!
Enjoy the journey~

I've not used cocoa butter, but I do use shea butter and castor oil. Even just 5% castor oil seems to produce a lovely bubbly lather even in my horrendously hard water.

I tend to use 10% shea and 5% castor in nearly all of my soaps. The rest is a balance between coconut, palm and olive oils.
