Just let it go. Sadly, some people will continue to use syndet, commercial made bars. That's what Caress is; a syndet bar. It's not real soap.

I agree with Soapbuddy. I know it's hard to think that someone doesn't like your soaps but really everyone is different. My oldest son has Autism so we celebrate differences between people more than most in our house. I always tell him that if everyone was the same and liked all the same things the world would be an extremely boring place to be. Who wants to be boring anyway? It's much cooler and braver to be "weird" than Boring. Try not to take it personally she just likes it the way she likes it. Some people just have an aversion to "homemade" anything. (Don't waste anymore of your awesome soaps on her either.)

It sounds like she has a regular bar she really likes, so I wouldn't try to compete with that. And that's okay. I still don't understand people who love castile soap - it just doesn't feel right to me.

EVERY well made handmade bar of soap is better than caress BUT you will never convince anyone who doesn't wish to be convinced. They will see what they choose to see. The chemicals used to make caress and other syndet bars are simply "better" to many people. Just like some people will never be a Vegetarian, and some Vegetarians will never be Vegan, some chemical users will always believe the chemicals are better. I have a dil who chooses to buy her lotions at that national b and b wrks store because they are "what she likes". I have hundreds of faithful purchasers who LOVE my lotion "better than anything they have ever tried", but I can't give it to her. It is what it is.
You can do what I do to make myself better. I always think about it like "casting my pearls before swine" and then I don't feel soooooo bad!

Not only is she not willing to be convinced of artisanal soaps' benefits and luxury, but she specifically went out of her way to ask you for a bar and then ragged on it once she got it? I'd stop giving her soaps. Or phone calls.

OK, perhaps she doesn't realize how she sounds. It IS possible that your bar is drying to her. If you are using more than 25% coconut oil, it CAN be very drying. This is me trying to be informational and generous of spirit - done now! Also, if she has hard water, the water itself can be irritating.

If you are superfatting at 6% or 7% and using an olive oil, coconut oil, shea butter recipe -- it should be absolutely, positively DELIGHTFUL. I've now made 6000 bars of soap (doing a festival next month) and I've given perhaps 250 bars of soap of various recipes that you've described for gifts. THE ONLY negative comments I've gotten were: one person said they were beautiful and doesn't want to hurt my feelings but really prefers liquid soap, the 2nd person prefers straight cut to crinkle cut soaps (but loves the silky moisturized feeling she gets from my soap).

Trust ALL of us when we say it probably is NOT your soap, but her preference to crumass . . . err... Caress "soap". Don't give her any more.
