Teach Soap

I just ordered one of those BB molds and it should be here next week. Someone had inspired me with one of their Christmasy colored round soaps on here I have used the pringles can and they work good. I just dont eat pringles so I feel like I am buying junk food just for my soap habits.

I tried the freezer paper in the PVC mold the other day and it worked just fine. Maybe I won't need the BB column mold after all...

I have a BB column mold and liner amd have yet to use it...the end cap is extremely tight and having small hands I'm afraid I will not be able to get it off. So I have my husband playing with it while watching tv...taking it off and on. So hopefully soon I will try it.

I think you could split the PVC pipe lengthwise with a circular saw then use a couple/three hose clamps to draw the gap closed. The end cap would fit a little lose maybe. After the soap was ready you loosen the clamp and the pipe would "spring" open and allow the soap to slide out. Of course removing 1/8" for the saw blade would make the soap a little out of round but I doubt that would be noticed.

Are you all using schedule 40 pipe, or do you have to use schedule 80 because of the heat?

If the end cap is too loose after splitting the pipe you could wrap the pipe-end with teflon tape to get it to seat onto the cap.

If the 1/8" inch that the saw blade removed wasn't enough you could slip a screwdriver into the kerf and twist it a little to increase the amount of "ease."

The best thing to line the pipe with would be teflon sheet cut to fit. Probably can get that at someplace like Graingers or McMasters. I have some that I use for various things and I seem to remember it was available in quite thin sheets. The teflon would be reusable, too. Might even be a Food Grade type available.

PVC, 3" diameter, 24" length: I bought some at Home Depot for $20, then had to cut it myself with a dull saw because they wouldn't cut PVC for me. It was uneven, jagged, and definitely reduced utility.
End cap for the tops of each of the two halves of pipe: $1
Bottom end cap (flanged, so as to increase standing stability): $5 each, total of 2, $10.
Total: $31

Or... Brambleberry has a round column mold for $10 plus shipping. Just sayin'. Easier, neater, cleaner, someone else does the work.
