Teach Soap

I have off the charts hard water. It WILL make you itchy and dry to the point of cracking peeling skin. The water softener only helps to a degree. I can't wait to move . . . looking forward to good water! The soap is not the culprit. Love washing with my soap.

Your MIL could be sensitive to something in your soap. I specifically make soap for a friend that is extremely sensitive to CO. I make soap for her using PKO instead of CO. Also, I have heard some people can be sensitive to castor oil. maybe you could try a castille bar for her? Or at least ask her to try a different soap with a different formula. If she's not even willing to try a new formulation then maybe she just prefers the Ivory. Either way, at least you tried to help her out!

In the wintertime I have crazy dry and itchy skin, no matter what kind of soap I use. I just use a lotion afterwards and I am fine. Everyone's different! At least your hubby likes it and that awesome!

Thanks for the story WildChick! We have all got similar stories. I have a SIL with sensitivities to scents and colors but very oily skin. I made her a batch with no color and a small amount of citrus essential oils. She never even thanked me. She uses a commercial acne soap on her skin instead because she just didn't want to use any scents. (LOL it's not unscented acne soap.) I felt bad but let all the positive comments cover her reaction. Keep on soaping!

I had a friend who wouldn't eat my home raised eggs because the yolks were so orange they grossed her out. How many times have we had people tell us they think the 'problem' with our homemade soap must be the lye we use? Ha ha. Just give it up and give your wonderful, beautiful soap to people who appreciate it.

My water is off the scale hard and I have a water softener (I don't think it does much good). My CP soaps have 60% olive oil, and the rest is coconut oil, castor oil and shea butter. I've made the same recipe without the shea butter. It is an awesome soap and lathers/bubble well and makes me feel silky EVEN in my horrendous water. Hope this helps.

I make huge batches (reasonably huge) using 122 ounces of fats/oils plus water and lye. Most people would need to cut the recipe down. You can email me if you want it.
