Teach Soap

I have a recipe that calls for carrot puree at trace. Has anyone ever used purple carrots for this and if you have...what color did your soap turn?

Natural purple tends to turn to gray in soap.

I might have to try a small batch and see how it turns out. Grey can be pretty.

I have never even seen a purple carrot! I wanna see pictures of that soap please!

Here's som trivia for you. Before the 17th century almost all cultivated carrots were purple!! I've been getting a mix of orange, yellow & purple carrots from the food co-op I participate in. I bought heirloom variety seeds to grow some purple ones this year though!!!
They taste the same...just have a really dark purple color.

I have heard of them, I have just never seen one. The orange stays when you use carrots or pumpkins to your soap, so I am thinking the purple will stay too, except in cp soap, a lot of times that color changes to more of a gray (except alkanet root).
Anyway, can't wait for you to get up your nerve! Jump on in there and soap woman!

Fyi...purple carrots turn green in CP soap. And then they turn the soap orangeish with green flecks. I'm interested to see what it looks like when it's unmolded.

I wonder if it will change any as it cures.... interesting experiment!

I'll get some pictures when I unmold, hopefully today!
I just dumped the puree into the batter at trace and really hit it with the stick blender to get the little pieces to blend. I'm wishing now that I would have added some of the oils to the puree first and see if that made a difference. I'm just amazed that there was no purple...these suckers were the color of really really dark beets. Oooh the wonders of cold process soap. lol
