I've occassionally seen soaps that have a distinctly different interior color than the outside layer. This in my mind isn't a gelling issue, but an intentional choice done to enhance the appearance of the soap. So, how did they do it?

To me it does look like discoloration from the FO. My hot chocolate soap looked like that but eventually all of it turned completely dark. The parts exposed to air are dark and the center stays light until it's cut. I could be wrong but that's what it looks like to me.

I would agree. It just looks fresh cut to me

It does look like it is just not cured yet. Once cut, it will all change color as it is exposed to the air. I can't see the picture well, but if it were an intentional color difference, it would not have a perfect square of dark around the outer sides, top and bottom. Instead, you'd have a layer of dark, then a layer of light, which would extend to the sides. So no square of color.

It looks to me like it's soap that hasn't cured yet. My vanilla soap starts out this way, the color evens out and the whole soap is then the same dark color.

Thank you for the feedback ladies. I'm disappointed that this look seems tone then temporary. I think it's cool.

I'm sorry you weren't able to see the picture so clearly. I snatched it from an ebay listing:

It does look like it's fresh & hasn't fully discolored yet.

But if you want to do the frame thing, it's quite easy.
1)You pour a small layer of your batter on the bottom.
2)Put saran wrap over half the length of your mold, so 1/2 half is covered & 1/2 is open.
3) After the bottom layer is hardened, tip the mold on it's side, with the saran wrap sectioned on the bottom. Pour a small amount of your batter in the mold. You may have to move the mold around a bit to get it evenly distributed. Let that harden.
4)Remove the saran wrap from the one 1/2 & put saran wrap on the opposite 1/2. Pour a small amount of your batter in the mold. Let that harden.
5)Use a different or lighter color for the center of the soap.
6) Top off the soap with the original color.

Thank you all for your time to reply, especially Genny! I'll have to give that a try.

I love the framing in the video. That's really beautiful, though it seems like a ton of work.

BubbleUp, a framed soap was being talked about elsewhere recently so I chased it up and led me to this video. It does seem to be a bit time consuming but worth it. I might have to try it one day soon. He makes some beautiful soaps.
