I have read that one of the advantages of making your own soap is all of the glycerin is retained and not extracted out like in commercial soap. So why do commercial soaps have their glycerin extracted anyway? Why don't they just leave it in?

Because they can sell it and make more money separating the "good stuff" out....

Kinda like selling enriched white bread, and then saving the fiber from the wheat for Metamucil. :lol:

I can't remember where I read this but someone mentioned that commercial soapmakers sell the glycerin to companies that make lotion.
