I am not sure about the white at all. White lather, yes. White rinse water like a dye.....umm, nope.
I agree with Linda, allowing your bar to cure, even HP bars, will give you a better, harder bar of soap, one that you will probably like better. Patience is definitely a virtue, especially in soap making.
As for beer soap, I like it, as do many. I don't add only beer for liquid though, I just use a portion of my liquid as beer. While I have used it room temp, most often I freeze the beer (like milk) and use it that way.
Another hair bar additive many like to try is egg soap. Oh, and yucca is good in hair soap too.
So many additive, so few soap making days! Lol :D

lololol I totally agree :D
so you're saying you add your NaOH into your beer? couse that's what I was thinking about doing...I'm letting it sit today aswell, and bring to my boyfriend's house tomorrow and make a mess there :D
I'll add an egg yolk aswell.....and as for oils...I'll use coconut, almond, castor and olive....I do have 50 grams of shea butter left so maybe I'll figure out how to add it in aswell....oooooh man oh man...so many ideas, so little effects lol  :? :(

the white water is now really bothering me...it may have to do with the curing time but then again...I bet if one of you did it, you'd make it right :/

Here is your percentages:
Castor Oil 15.00%
Coconut Oi 30.00%
Olive Oil 45.00%
Soybean Oil 10.00%
I would do a higher superfat, like at 7% at 96 grams. (100 grams of lye is closer to 4%)

Yes, I add the lye to my frozen beer. The egg soap is a whole other beast. There are many threads about egg soap and some of the challenges of it, as well as what to expect, you may want to read up on it before trying it, especially if you are also adding beer and honey in the same batch. Remember that patience thing we mentioned? Lol  Oh, and I agree w/ Soap Buddy about increasing the super fat some. I think you will need to experiment in order to find what works best for you and for the recipe you end up with. Much luck!

you guys really think I should increase the superfat? Instead of soybean, I'll use sunflower instead (just changed my mind out of nowhere lol).
so like I was saying...with this recipe you think I should superfat at 7% ? and it won't leave extra oilyness in my hair, right? :D

I can't promise I'll be patient with my hair...but I promise I'll be patient with my stupid bars curing :D

can't wait to give the egg soap some research now, write stuff down and get busy tonigh!! (I hope that didn't sound wrong  ) lol

This is a shampoo bar recipe that I made for my husband a while back because he can't use store bought shampoo as it irritates his scalp. I don't know if you have access to some of these oils at a local store but once you can order online they are easy to find. My husband loves it as well as a lot of other friends and family when they have asked to try a bar. I like it a lot too but I haven't used it as much lately because I just recently had highlights added to my hair.

30% Coconut Oil
25% Castor Oil
20% Avocado Oil
15% Hemp Seed Oil
10% Shea Butter

3% Superfat (This is the only soap that I make that I superfat at 3%. The rest of my bars are superfatted between 5% to 10% depending on the recipe.)

2 1/2 tsp of Sodium Lactate. (This is not needed but I have quite a few soft oils so the sodium lactate helped to harden it a bit faster so I could cut it sooner.)

Then I used 1 part Rosemary Essential Oil, 1 part Pepperment Essential Oil 1st Distillaton, 1 part Tea Tree Essential Oil, 3 parts BB's Vanilla Vanilla
The FO isn't needed. I just used it because I find those essential oils to be a bit sharp and the sweetness of the Vanilla FO helped tone it down a bit.

This is not a recipe I sell so I am happy to share it. The reason for the Rosemary is because it is said to help with dandruff, Tea Tree is a natural anti-septic, and Peppermint essential oil is said to stimulate the hair follicle to help hair grow. My husband doesn't really use conditioner but I eventually plan on making my own conditioner for me, I just haven't gotten around to it yet. If you make it let me know how you like it!

P.S. I have only made this recipe cold process style and not hot process but I assume it would work the same just fine.

OMG thank you so much! This was very informative and helpfull!! I do infact have acces to those oils I already have everything exept the hemp seed oil...I have sunflower oil but I guess that would not be a good replacement as I was planning to make the shampoo bar with the recipe I posted yesterday..I already have everything ready to start so finers crossed everyone...
BTW I finally bought a digital scale so I hope that that will help things turn out better as I used a regular kitchen scale with the rest of my bars :-)
I can't wait to try this recipe next!! Again, thank you so very much!! *hugs* !

You're totally welcome! :D Like I said when you do make it, just make sure to let me know how you like it once you use it. I'm not sure what would be a good comparable oil to Hemp Seed Oil that you could replace it with but if you can get the chance to to get it to use with this recipe I would. I love Hemp Seed Oil! I use it in a few different products that I sell.

I personally would not super fat to 7%, I like 6%, but Irena likes hers higher. I would not do a 3%, but obviously it works for Toni and her hubby, so, as we have said before, you will have to try a few things and see what you like best for you.
Have fun with the journey!

I only superfat to 3% for shampoos bars. Y regular body bars and such I usually superfat to between 5-7 and then my Bastille is at 10%. My vary depending on what the bar is used for. i.e. facial bars, shampoo bars, shaving bars, Bastille bars, and so forth. And like lavender lady said it just depends on what you like. For anything but shampoo bars I would not superfat any lower than a 5. The best way to figure out what you like would be to make some small batches (same oils) but change the superfat. That way you can you can test for yourself in the shower.

Thank you ladies very much, you're too kind for helping and guiding me :) much love!!
I made my batch for the recipe I posted, and I did superfat at 3% just to give it a try, I mean, what the hey...if I didn't like my bars superfatted at 5 -6 % maybe this will be better for me :) who knows...I'll let it harden till tomorrow, cut it and maybe even try it tomorrow night, I KNOOOW i should wait but I just wanna try  :D

tonibabcock I can't wait to give your recipe a try! You told me every single detail of the recipe I really appreciate it !
I do definently enjoy my journey of soap/shampoo making, it is the most creative and fun thing I have in a long time, and maybe I will have to scream and shout after a few batches, but dang it, I will find my recipe one day!
Another thing I thought about it maybe boiling my water to wash my hair...maybe my water is hard...I don't know how to tell :/
And a water softner is not something I could afford right now, so I'll give that also a shot :) :) :)

If you go to a local hardware store most of them have kits that are fairly inexpensive for you to test your water. Then you will be able to at least find out if your water it one of the problems you're having when washing your hair.

definently will go and find out how much it costs :)
I made the batch, only I didn't have enough coconut oil, I had 190 grams of cococnut, but I left everything else like it was, I recalculated the water and lye of course.
I added a bit of this "natural" shampoo I got, at the end, before pouring, and I think it's having trouble hardening couse of it :?
It's been over 24 hrs already and I can still squish it a little bit...it's been like that all day, and every batch of mine hardend (hardent ?) all the way after 24 hrs..so I think it's couse of the shampoo...although I did only put 10-20 grams of it in there....I really hope it will harden so I can use it :O
