oh how I hate YMMV lol

I know, I know but it's sooooo frustrating. I promised my cousin I'd give her a bar but how can I when it's making me crazy, what if it does the same to her? oh Lord :?

ok, can I just ask straight foward for someone to suggest me a recipe? I will keep on trying with this one, but I can't settle down, I have to make more, try more, I just have to lol

I have
200 grams of almond oil
50 grams of avocado oil
60 grams of castor oil
250 grams of coconut oil
400 grams of olive oil
500 grams soybean oil
50 grams of shea butter

and I can afford only some more castor oil, all the others are too pricey -.- I'm not saying I should use them all in the recipe, just telling you what I have :)

so like I said, what kind of recipe (with these ingridients) would you use if you wanted a bar that will clean hair and not leaving it feeling weird ? I know you (all) have better things to do than to help me come up with a recipe but I'm so desperate...pretty please O:)

It's not that we won't help you - it's that YMMV is a very true statement and what works for you may not work for your cousin, or me or others on here.

Some people can use bars with no problem. I've tried 3 and I can only use them if I use an ACV rinse every week or two (I may get lucky someday and find one that works but not yet). Soapbuddy has said she can't use them at all. Others have very good luck with them.

Again, best thing to do IMO is buy some "commercial" natural soap and see if ANY of them work for your hair. You can even start with a simple 100% OO soap. I bought an honest to goodness shampoo bar at a fair, didn't work for me either - UNLESS I use the ACV rinse which I really don't want to do. That's my choice. Others have no problem with it. The ACV rinse made my hair look great, I am just trying to eliminate that extra step. I read another blog where they said every Monday they shampoo with mainstream shampoo to eliminate the funk. Again, I didn't want to do that. My choice. Everyone is different.

And there are a ton of shampoo topics on here. I know, I've spent many an early morning reading them if I couldn't get back to sleep after my bf's alarm went off lol

lol I know what you mean, same here :D

and I know that YMMV is a true statement, that's why I hate it so much :D I can't even describe how this is p*ssing me off lol

I just might try the same recipe again, but instead of avocado oil, I'll use almond or coconut oil...and superfat at 6%....I don't knooow!
when I washed my hair with the bar today (and yesterday), and when I rinsed, the water came out white ...how can I explain it....like when I dye my hair black, black water rinses out, and with the bar, the water is white...is that normal?

I don't know if that's normal, I never really pay attention to the water rinsing off me unless I've been playing in the mud.

I would think having chemically treated hair may make a difference as well. I have not done anything to my hair in many years. I've even been cutting it myself for the past 6 or so.

that's weird, now that I mentioned it, I also don't know if that's normal :? it's like the bar is leaving soap on my hair, and that's why it's white (does that make sense)

I also cut my own hair (my hair is to my elbows, and I dye it black)...do you make your own bar? what kind?:D

If you dye your own hair, the high pH of handmade soap or shampoo bar will strip some of the color.

With those high % of these oils, it will make your soap very soft. You need regular coconut, not fractionated. Castor at a higher then 5% makes for a soft and sticky soap. Almond oil is considered a soft oil as well.

I don't have an answer to your shampoo bar dilemma except what others have said about trial and error, and I certainly don't want to be argumentative or cause an issue, but I have never heard of a regular bar of soap (shampoo or body bar) turn the rinse water white unless it was over colored with a white colorant. That seems quite strange to me.......... just sayin'.

I'm with Irena though on this recipe producing too soft of a bar. While I have used more castor than 5% without getting a soft bar, you have to compensate with other hard oils to avoid being too soft. If you don't want to use a lot of coconut oil or a palm/coconut blend, you could try some babassu oil. It is a bit on the pricier side, but I love it. In fact, I don't ever use palm or pko.

Keep working on perfecting your recipe and enjoy the journey!

oh man why is the water coming out white then :( I can't believe this...how can I possibley have done that wrong...!
after I posted the recipe I realised myself that it would be too soft, but with Genny's recipe I used 10% castor oil and the lather isn't even there, it's so weak it's sad :(

I use virgin coconut oil, I don't know why I clicked fractionated...I just thought sinse the bar qualities came out pretty good, that it would make a good bar ... I lost my job recently (I'm 23) and have to ask my mother to buy the ingridients for me, she makes natural hand&body creams with oils and beeswax so she's getting pretty sick of me wasting the oils just like that...

she's all "stick to one recipe and do get it right already" I mean I understand her but I'm always failing...

Didn't you just make the bars the other day? I found I got more lather as they cured more. Soapmaking is an exercise in patience ;)

I did yes but...well isn't the point of HP that you can use the bars after 24 hrs :? :? lol

I opened a non alcoholic beer last night, poured it in a huge pitcher so it flattens faster, I'll let it flatten till tonight and make a beer bar...I'll mix the beer with lye :D
