hello everyone, I'm sorry for writing this thread on the CP part of the forum but I didn't see any HP part...
so anyways...I'm trying out shampoo bar recipes and my first 2 batches were a complete failure...my hair was waxy and heavy and just dirty looking after trying it (used 250 grams coconut oil, 100 grams castor oil and 150 grams olive oil, superfatted at 3 % )

I made another batch this morning (I'm from Croatia it's 12:35 a.m. right now) andeager to try it tomorrow..I really hope it will work becouse I everyone seems to love it, it's from Genny from SoapMaking forum

it goes:

Avocado Oil: 30%
Castor Oil: 10%
Olive Oil: 40%
Shea Butter: 10%
Soybean Oil: 10% and superfat at 6% ( I did 5%)

I also wanted to ask you guys if you have any recipes for me (my hair can get pretty oily)

I would like a bar that will clean my hair but not dry it out...can anyone suggest a recipe that doesn't contain Avocado, or Jojoba or Palm oil becouse my local store, where I get my oils from, ran out of those 3 oils...

please help ( I do hot process only )

(I just saw I have 50 milileters of Avocado oil left)

My hair so far has not liked bars unless I do an apple cider vinegar rinse every week or so. Everyone seems to be different.

This looks like a nice one though, I may give it a try sometime!

I can't use CP soap as a shampoo bar on my hair at all. My hair prefers a syndet shampoo bar.

I also fell in love with it as I saw it and read about all the wonderful feedback...I just hope I'm not that big of a jinx that only my hair won't work with it.
So I'll let you know tomorrow after I try it.
I hope that someone can give me a recipe to try out :-)

Just type shampoo in the search box and you'll get a whole list of topics

Everyone's hair is different though. What works for one may not work for you. Some can't use bars at all. Trust me, I know what you mean about the supplies! But at least shampoo bars that don't work for your hair will work for your body :)

You an always buy single homemade bars from others to see if they work and if they do, work with those ingredients. But you still won't know the percentages.

Soap queen has a shampoo bar recipe too

like I said a after every batch I have made so far "why can't we all just have the same hair type :( "
It's 10:40 a.m. now, I'm going to try my shampoo at 3:00 p.m. and I'll let you know if I'm going to kill myself or not lol
The soap queen uses shampoo bar bases in a lot of her recipes and I can't buy that here, there isn't a store that sells that..and I'm stil waiting for my Paypal card to arrive in the mail so I can buy thing online -.- but I'm SUCH an impatient person, I just want to find/make a good bar right away...like I said, everyone who tried Genny's recipe - loved it...so..fingers crossed :)

oh and another thing, does anyone do HP? becouse I have a question, I do the zap test on every batch and there is no zap after about an hour and a half, but the thing is my batch gets too hard by that time...I wanna put it in the mold when it's still soft and mash potatoey like, but it's still zapping while that soft :/

As far as cost of supplies & the amount you go through while testing & refining, we have all been there, there is really no way around it. However, you learn an awful lot along the way so it's worth it! :D Plus it's so much fun!!!

The whole point of doing HP is to cook it to neutrality, no point in putting it in the mold when it's still zapping.
Sodium Lactate helps to keep it more fluid (but never like CP) or you can have a fiddle with the oils you are using?

I have to admit, it is a lot of fun, lol. I'm getting addicted, it's like all I ever do all day is search for recipes that can be good for me, with oils I have access to :D

ok but here's the thing - Sodium Lactate is that something I can buy in the pharmacy? and another thing -

"or you can have a fiddle with the oils you are using?" - I don't know what a fiddle is? lol

I just read about adding alcohol in recipes.......what if added vodka in my recipe, you think that it would work better for my hair, since it can get oily? :O
