Every one of you needs to know, because I did not know BUT there is an item that can be bought online for less than $5.00 that is called a Bump Key and thieves use it to open your doors and come into your house. Any exterior door that you do not normally go in and out of using a key (such as a side door or back door) should have the locks "neutralized." The locksmith makes it so NO KEY can fit or turn the lock. That particular door would only be able to be unlocked or locked from the inside. Obviously you can't do this to all doors, but seriously consider doing it for back and side doors.

The good news is I did not get hurt even though I walked in on a burglary in progress in my house after work Saturday night (really Sunday morning). I did not realize it was in progress until I was on the phone with the police and heard a noise bang. I thought it was a door, but it was stuff being dropped on the patio as the thief or thieves were running out the back door.

Thank God my little girl was still at child care.

They left my soaps alone but cleaned me out almost entirely otherwise. This laptop was on the couch as part of the next group of stuff to be taken out the door. They even took my most recent fragrance oil order, so now I'm set behind on that too. Tomorrow (later today) I have to go to the banks to open new accounts. I was on the phone all morning putting freezes on everything.

Weird stuff . . . while they were stealing all my medications, which were on a shelf in the pantry, they were eating mint fudge cookies and possibly potato chips. Also, apparently the thief in the kitchen was thirsty and had taken a big bottle of Gatorade out of the fridge and hadn't even opened it, but saw me driving in and put it on the counter. It was still cold.

I'm so disheartened, but I am thankful I didn't get hurt.

The police got some finger prints, but whose they are who knows. Hopefully they aren't just mine and they can be matched to a known person.

I have had my home broken into and it sucks. My apologies. Maybe you can have someone stay with you for a few days until the creepy feeling goes away?

Very sorry to hear it. Good thing everyone is ok and they left in a rush.

Thank you. It's appreciated. No, I'm just going to keep on doing what I need to do to get through it all. I'm just exhausted because of working on one hour of sleep. I should be going to the bank right now, but instead I'm going to bed. The bank will have to wait. I have a freeze on the account for now.

:( :x

What an awful experience! I'm thankful that you are okay and that your daughter wasn't there! Also, thank you for posting about the Bump Key. I've never heard of it. We were robbed about 2 years ago (carport and vehicles only, though) and it was not fun. We were fortunate that some of the items taken from my car were recovered, but all of the tools and lawn equipment taken had to be replaced.

Thank you all, but it is getting more awful. My neighbor about 1 1/2 blocks down the street was broken into Thursday and they took guns. This morning a person knocked on his door and because he did not recognize the person, he did not answer the door. Ten minutes later four hooded men surrounded his house, broke in and were armed with the guns they stole from his house on Thursday. My neighbor shot and killed one of them.

Meanwhile, two men -- one which may fit the description of the person who knocked on my neighbor's door -- were in front of my house today and it was a very strange short conversation. I'm concerned about it and trying to reach the police because supposedly there is one person in custody. If so, I can possibly identify if it was one of these guys.

And the different news stations are posted down the street. Neither of us want to be on the news, and I explained I'm afraid of getting killed. They offered to disguise my face and I know that doesn't work. I'm hoping they honor my request.

Now I wonder if my house will ever sell. I am more scared for my little girl. I'm taking tonight off work (the pay isn't worth it), putting her in child care for a few hours and trying to get through some of the mess. Maybe even get some sleep? 3 hours in 2 days isn't working for me.

Thank you all for letting me get some of this out and for your well wishes. I'll keep you posted.

Jill

Jill - vent anytime - boards like this are a godsend sometimes. I have been there.

Get some sleep - its very important to make sure you stay hydrated as well. Stress makes you forget so many things.

Take care and keep us updated.
