The one I use is the pure castile with the certified organic oils. The ingredients are few and easy to list on my labels.

But I only use it in bases that are not very accepting of oil and butter type additives. Many of my recipes call for adding in some oil or butter and if the base loses lathering from adding them then I l use the Dr. Bronners soap.

But if Dr. Bronners soap company found out that you are using some of their soap in your soap and reselling it, wouldn't you get in trouble?

Candybee, that was nice of you to mention the castor oil! As a matter of fact I am making some MP bars in the morning and I think I will add some - I always have it around for CP. Thanks also for the Dr. Bonner's tip.

Question - have you used raw honey in MP and if so, how did that work for you? Anyone else who has used honey in MP - did y'all like it or have problems? Was your honey raw or processed - and while we are at it, has anyone used Agave Necter in MP? Does honey have an effect on hardness and/or lather??

Thank you all - I just love reading everyone's take on soap making!

Holly

Honey makes a great additive to soapmaking and I use it for my oatmeal, milk, and honey soaps. I use honey from a local apiary. I use up to 1 tbs per lb in my base. You would have to experiment to see how much your base will hold without compromising the lather. Local honey is strained and cleaned up before they sell it and tastes better than store brand honey. Additionally, locally produced honey has more benefits than the commercial honey at your grocers.

Honey is loaded with vitamins and nutrients and is a natural preservative. It also helps skin maintain moisture and is naturally hypo allergenic. I sell a ton of honey soap and oatmeal, milk, and honey soap.

If you don't want to add the honey yourself you can also purchase honey M&P bases. The honey is already in the base so you know its the right amount. But its not real honey, its the powdered kind.

Honey "might" preserve some products, but it is not a proper preservative for B&B products. It can be added to MP safely though.
