I have a question. What is a good place for your soap while drying? How do you do yours?
Need examples please.(how do you store your bars of soap.)Pictures would be nice if anyone has anything to share.) :D
I don't know if I need ventilation, can I just put my drying racks in a closet, or should they be in a
cool dark area, etc.
I'm sorry if this sounds dumb, I'm just not for sure.

When I first started I had my soap covering every flat surface I could find.

My hubby bought me a inexpensive plastic shelving unit from walmart that I keep in our guest bedroom. I cover the shelves with kraft paper and then stand my soap on end about 1/2 inch apart and that's it. Sometimes I'll turn them, but not usually. You don't need anything fancy and a closet will work fine.

In my old house I did the same thing, spare room with plastic unit I purchased pretty cheap from Lowes had venting on shelves so it was perfect! I let them cure for about 6 weeks and then store them in large plastic bags so they still look and smell great months later. Just pulled out some fall soaps from last year and they are wonderful! I now keep them in my new house in my big walk in closet (clothes are not in there anymore) but even though the closet is very big, they did much better in the spare bedroom with more air.

Congratulations on your first batch, LilacLady! How exciting!

I let my bars cure on a wire shelving unit. I love it because I can store all of my soaping stuff in one place on the shelves, and I don't have to worry about turning the bars because air can pretty much get to all the surfaces (I may give it a turn a week after cutting so air gets to the parts resting on the wire parts of the shelf). If you don't have a shelving unit, you could get a cooling rack, like the kind you let cookies cool on, if you want ventilation. If you're anything like me, soon you'll have so much soaping paraphernalia that you will need a shelving unit (or, in my case, two).

You will soon have so much soap that you won't know what to do with it! I haven't bought a bar of soap from the store in almost 3 years. Every once in a while I will buy soap at a craft show or farmer's market because I do like to try other people's handmade soaps.

Thanks so much for sharing your photos! I hope I'll have some as wonderful as yours someday.
I don't have any shelves yet,but I did use my cooling racks for cookies.I was so excited this evening,my son in law works at a grocery store here, and he brought me 5lbs. of nice beef tallow from the meat dept. (FREE!) Now I'm planning my next recipe. Sweet! :D[/quote]
What a nice son-in-law! He's a keeper for sure!
