If the hearts are small, you can leave them in there for at least a couple of hours. What I would do is while you are waiting for the hearts, get the rest of the batch ready. Put on gloves and cut the hearts if the soap is solid enough to cut. Then put them back in the fridge while you make the main batch. Pour the mail batch into your mold then embed the hearts. If the hearts are inside the soap I would gel so they stick together. If they are on top, I wouldn't gel so they don't melt.
