So excited - we picked up a butchered hog today and they gave me the lard. I am guessing I need to render this before using it in my soap, correct? Currently it looks like one big 15 lb block of frozen hamburger! A long time ago, I rendered some beef fat. I assume the process is the same? Anyone done this?

Yes, it needs to be rendered before you use it in soap. The process would be the same for either. Don't forget to run this new recipe in a lye calc. Tallow and lard have different SAP values. Tallow makes a harder soap then lard, so the recipe needs to be adjusted for this.
