So excited - we picked up a butchered hog today and they gave me the lard. I am guessing I need to render this before using it in my soap, correct? Currently it looks like one big 15 lb block of frozen hamburger! A long time ago, I rendered some beef fat. I assume the process is the same? Anyone done this? :D

Yes, it needs to be rendered before you use it in soap. The process would be the same for either. Don't forget to run this new recipe in a lye calc. Tallow and lard have different SAP values. Tallow makes a harder soap then lard, so the recipe needs to be adjusted for this.
