My Dad loves that Gojo orange soap for working in the garage. I thought it'd make a nice gift if I could make my own soap for him similar to it! I was going to use my normal CP recipe but I got the 10X Orange EO and ground Pumice from BB. Looking for recommendations on how much per lb of oils to add of each? Want it nice & strong smelling with lots of scrubby goodness for getting car grease off his hands!

Thanks :)

Check BB's fragrance calculator for the amount of 10X to add. For the pumice, you can start with 1-2 tsp. and if it doesn't seem like enough, add more. The amount of scrubiness is more personal preference than an exact amount. 8)

Ok thanks! I didn't know if there was a "too much" or "just right" amount. The gojo liquid soap has a lot of it to make it feel gritty, but it's not rough on the skin - hoping this is the same thing. I tried coffee grinds in soap once and it was way too scratchy :-/

My BB order gets here Thursday, excited!

Some coffee grounds can be very scratchy!
I like to use whole oats or cornmeal in my scrubby hand/foot soap. Just be careful with cornmeal because if you use too much you'll take your skin off!

So I ordered this Pumice from Bramble Berry - http://www.brambleberry.com/Pumice-P4067.aspx

It's such a super fine powdery texture, it does not feel gritty at all. As I mixed my batter, I sprinkled some evenly over the entire batch, mixed it in, then sprinkled more, etc. I ended up using almost the entire 1 oz packet, which would end up being 3x the recommended amount. Now that my soap has cured, I've tested a few bars and used them many times a day for several days. While the 10x Orange EO smells wonderful, it does not have any grainy/gritty/sandy/exfoliating texture. So it smells good and the soap feels good, but it won't really work as a scrubby soap. I know it mixed evenly and I certainly used more than enough. Has anyone else used this brand of Pumice? Any advice? Or recommendations for something else? I really wanted that sandy/gritty texture from the liquid mechanic soap brand that helps to scrub off grease.

Try sanitized sand. It's very scratchy. You might be able to find it in the pet store by the fish supplies.

I don't go light when I use pumice sand, it's so fine it feels good to shower with it! I use as much as 1:1 ratio of pumice:soap (volume), it makes the soap really hard like in between a sand stone and rock hard soap.

I used 8 oz of pumice in each of my batches and I still don't think it was enough. One recipe I looked at said to add pumice until it was completely saturated. Can anyone tell me if the cornmeal goes bad in the soap -- as in gets moldy or anything like that?
