I have read a few posts on here about soapers pre-measuring their oil. If you do this method, how long do you leave all the oils in one container before making you soap? Do you risk the oils going rancid doing this? With being back to full time work after my maternity leave I am finding it hard to get time to make my batches from start to finish...could premeasure one night and soap the next!

Also, whats the chance of oils bought at Walmart turning my batches rancid? I have seen olive oil in my local Walmart here in Ontario for far less than I can purchase it at my soap supplier! If I could find my other oils used as well at this kind of price I wouldn't have to order oils from the supplier, thus saving my shipping cost and lowering the amount of shipments I need to order:)

Thanks

I've used EVOO from walmart lots of times and it's never been a problem. Our store has a very good turn around on it so it doesn't sit on the shelf very long.

I've been purchasing my olive oil from Sam's club (Walmart subsidiary) and haven't had any issues with it. I can get it cheaper there then from any supplier.

I've never had any problems with my store brought olive oils myself.

I've been told not all OO's are created alike, so I ended up ordering it.

I pre-measure my shea butter, mango butter, coconut oil, and castor oil right into my stainless steel pots. I put the lid on and leave it on the cold stove or the counter. I've left it for a couple of days and never was concerned. After I melt my fats I then add my olive oil. I buy my coconut oil at Walmart and my olive oil at Sam's Club. I spend a little extra and get the 100% pure olive oil.

The only time I've ever had an oil issue is when I mistakenly grabbed the olive/canola oil and used it. That batch got thrown out.

I also weigh out my shea and mango butters when I first get them and I store them in saran wrap. That way I just grab a lump of what I want and throw it in the pot. I order butters 10 lbs at a time. It's just faster for me even though I'm "handling" it twice.
