So I have found several lotions on Etsy with high sales numbers and no preservative. Are they just not listing it in the ingredient list or are people really making lotion without preservatives?
I just assumed it would turn green after a week without it. I have never tried though. And I can't imagine selling it without preservative.
But I found a popular face care company (boscia I think) that claims to be preservative free so maybe it is possible. Yes water is listed in the ingredient list of these products.

Etsy doesn't police those that sell lotions without a preservative. I've looked before and was appalled. I think most of those people are just hobbyist and have no clue, or choose to be ignorant. I used to send PM to those people and ask, but I received nasty PM's back. I don't do that anymore. You can preserve a lotion with alcohol, but it needs to be at a high %. That will also make the product drying.
There are preservatives available that are more "natural", but the products are made in a commercial lab, with proper testing. Making a lotion in your kitchen without a preservative is asking for a lawsuit to happen.

Germs, mold and bacteria can start very quickly and cannot always be seen by the naked eye. Storing an unpreserved lotion in a refrigerator will only prolong the shelf life for maybe 24 to 48 hours. After that, it should be thrown out.

The longer I make my products, the more I realise people will and do say just about anything to make their product seem more appealing and buy worthy than the competitions. I've seen soaps that cure cancer... so a preservative free lotion is nothing more than a sales gimmick and a big fat lie to me.

When first starting out I was leaning towards the "au natural" type products, but when Anne-Marie first posted this http://www.soapqueen.com/bath-and-body- ... strikes-2/ it completely changed my mind.

Well check out this company ,it's called SUKI and I have emailed these people and asked them how they sell an un preserved product ,they replied that alot of it has to do with their packaging..... all airless pump bottles for lotions and such and that they include a recommended shelf life . This company is all over the place and is carried in Macy's. So I see it being done, I think we all need to be receptive to MANY variables in the bath and body buisiness, obviously we don't know it all !

Yes it is Suki Skin Care, I had contacted them quite awhile ago with my preservative question and it was about a specific product which I don't see on the site anymore,it was a water containing lotion/ facial moisturizer. Any way what fantastic products from this company,I hope I didn't sound mean in my last post it's just that I feel that sometimes people get to comfortable with what they know or think they know and I believe that there are ways to deliver a preservative free product that the homebased soapmaker/ bodycare maker may not have the equipment/lab or expertise to create. this women started at her home but also had access to a lab near her hometown.
