Carrie ~ I put about 10% castor oil & 5% shea butter in my salt bars. The castor helps with a more bubblier lather.

Sometime ago I got a salt bar tutorial print from a soaper and it had a great recipe that i printed off. It was 20% superfat. It did have a small amt of avocoda oil but I substituted Sunflower oil everytime I make it.. Also some Castor oil. It was a 1:1 ratio on the sea salt. I love to bath with it. I don't use it daily. I occasionally use on my face. On the tutorial it reccomends adding the FO to the salt along with the color and adding at trace. Works well. I usually do a very nice Ocean blue color. I did use Butt naked time before last batch and it turned a nice rustic looking brown. I can't keep enough made. Just made another batch Sunday evening. I use the BB silicone loaf mold.
My Title is just Sea Salt Soap.

I found the tutorial if your interested

One thing that I noticed with salt bars is, fo's stick very well in salt bars. So use less fo than you usually would.

Does this soap need to go into the oven? When looking at the instructions here it says:

10. Place the mold into your preheated oven and turn off the oven. Leave the soap in the oven for about 2 hours or until the soap feels firm enough to cut. Cut the soap immediately after you take it out of the oven or else it will become too hard to cut.

Has anyone tried without the oven?

Bryan

From my experience you do NOT need to put salt bars in the oven.

I have always put mine in the oven. I ususally put them in for about 25 min on 170 then take it out and let it cool down for a while. when it still warm but not hot I release it from the silicone mold and cut.

I tried my hand at salt bars once
Coconut Milk
Coconut oil 400gms
Olive Oil 100 gms
Salt 375gms
superfat 14%

The bars kept weeping on me.... but it was very nice and conditioning to use but a little brittle..unfortunately, i couldnt put it up on my shelf due to the weeping. :-( Still havent understood what wen wrong and never tried again
