Teach Soap

So I've been making soap for a couple of years now but I only started selling at the beginning of this year. I've never made goat milk soap until today. Mostly because if I was going to I figured I would want to use fresh goat milk and had not found any until recently when I met a lady at one of my craft shows who sold it. I did a castile batch at 40% percent lye solution and it looks like it turned out well. It is currently hanging out in my freezer. I will take pictures tomorrow when I pull it out. I have always read that people say that the goat milk-lye solution smelled funny. It definitely does and to me it smells like perm solution! I used mostly frozen goat milk in an ice water bath but I didnt have a lot of ice. I think I might have scorched the milk a little. The current color of the soap is like a rich buttery yellow. Is it still good if I scorched the milk a little? I am excited because I have never really liked castile soap but I have read that goat milk castile is really nice. The only thing that sucks is I have to wait 6 months! Just wanted to know what everyone's thoughts are. Thanks!

I doubt you scorched the milk. I use milk frozen until it's slushy and add the lye to it stirring all the time. I don't set it in a bowl of ice. Sometimes it turns bright orange and sometimes it's light yellow, and the soap always turns out the same color. Sometimes, but not always, it has an amonia smell ar first.

Yay on a GM batch, I've wanted to try GM, I love buying it and using it...I just need to pull on my big girl panties and try it out.

Grats on your first GM batch! It sounds like some of the sugar in the GM started to carmelize. That doesn't ruin to the soap or harm it. Waiting on Castille is really hard!
