Candles can cause some respiratory issues with cats, tart warmers and oil warms are the ones to watch out for though! Both of those tend to be extra scent heavy and can cause respiratory distress. EOs tend to be more damaging but FOs can cause problems too, especially allergic reactions. Lavender is the biggie. It is in sooo many items these days, and it is super bad for cats! Even as little as using a lavender hand lotion can be enough to cause severe issues for some cats. Mostly it depends on the individual cat (though I would stay away from much lavender for ANY cat), one of mine is allergic to the scent used in almost every cat litter! She has to get steroid shots or she spends her life coughing and wheezing.
Things to watch out for with sensitivity: sneezing, coughing, wheezing, lack of energy, avoidance of the product in question, visible "3rd" eyelid, runny nose or eyes, and swelling of the mouth and or nose. If you see any runny eyes or nose remove the item and keep an eye on the kitty for 24 hours, see a vet if it doesn't stop. If you see respiratory swelling (nose or tongue/mouth) take the kitty to the vet ASAP!
