One time my lye water turned pink. lol I think they were adding something at the station. I live in a village. Didn't hurt the soap though.

For mixing lye, I also use quart size yogurt containers. Works fine. I rotate them, and so far none have worn out, but they are easy enough to come by and recycle.

I saw the perfect lye jug at walmart yesterday, 97 cents! I get my spatulas there too, 99 cents each for silicone with a plastic handle. And they come in 5 or 6 different bright colours!
