Cold Process is done cold - you melt, you mix, you pour, you leave it.
Hot Process is done hot - same as above, but you finish the process and cook it all the way through.

Each have their own preference for which they prefer. I don't like HP personally.

I'd recommend picking up the Everything Soap Making book and reading through that is it outlines all these sorts of things, the differences, how each is accomplished, etc. http://www.amazon.com/Everything-Soapma ... 1598692291

I like switching back and forth between CP and HP, they both have their benefits. With HP, the soap is ready sooner and you can get away with using less fragrance. With CP, you can do some beautiful swirling and the texture is very creamy.

I like switching back and forth as well. CPOP (cold process, oven process) can be of the best of both worlds IF the oven temp is correct when the indicator says 170F :? ..... had a couple of batches overheat recently.

CPOP allows you to begin the batter as if you were making cold process, but then pop it in the oven for (2 hours or less) at 170F degrees. Then turn the oven off and let it sit overnight. This cuts down the curing time but allows for a bit more design (if you wld prefer).

I have been putting mine in the oven recently because I am soaping cool. Believe me you need to watch it. I nearly overheated a batch last nite. My first. I dont even wait till it gels to take it out. Once I know it is heated I take out and wrap and let it finish.
I love CP soaping. I went to a class once on making HP and it seemed to much work for me. I hate washing crockpots too.
