Teach Soap

Finished my first batch this afternoon! Seemed to stay at mid-trace forever, not sure if it was supposed to get thicker? I'm almost thinking I had the lye solution too cold when I added everything. Then I got worried that all I was seeing was the coconut oil re-solidifying. So I have no idea how this will all turn out!

The stick blender and I were not happy with each other. My bucket is too deep - I certainly didn't need it that big for 2 lbs (I think I got a 3 gallon). It was too tall for me and I was using my stool to prop the door closed.

Here is my pic - when should I unmold? I wrapped it and stashed it on a shelf in the basement.

Just let it be for now.

YAY!!!! It's not zapping me anymore OK I haven't cut it open yet but the top is pretty firm, the color is lighter and it's not zapping!! I even wet my finger and tried it.

So should I leave it another day? Should I unmold? How many questions can I ask in two paragraphs LOL

It's been since Saturday around 2:30pm

If the top is firm to the touch, go ahead and cut it.

So it won't pop out. I used a plastic container that used to be a door shelf for an old fridge. It has started to separate on the sides around the corners. I stuck a knife along the sides and that was softer than the top. BUT that didn't zap me either.

I put the whole thing in the freezer instead of just cutting it in the container which is what I really wanted to do LOL

So glad you put it in the freezer! Wise choice, grasshopper!
It should be much easier to get out now.

I know the voices in my head aren't real, but they sure have some great ideas!

Here's what happened.... I put the ice cream back in the freezer and noticed some seeping on top of the soap. I cut it out of the mold (maybe i should've lined it). They don't go into the soap and they don't zap at all, they just sat on top. I had it covered in Saran Wrap still.

So now all the pieces are sitting on a rack in the basement. No spots inside at all. It's firm but pliable if that makes sense.

I have a dehumidifier that's normally on but I think I shut it off Sunday since its gotten colder and drier out. The spots didn't show up till it had spent a few hours in the freezer which is certainly dry! That was my first thought too, the DOS. They do look orange in the pic I took but they aren't in real life.

Would DOS be in the entire bar or would it seep out like that? All my oils are new.

And would the freezer have brought that out? I'm hoping its glycerin. I'll put the dehumidifier back on as its raining/snowing now and just keep an eye on it

I just checked it. The color has changed to dark again and all the drippy spots are gone (there were 4-5 of them). DOS doesn't disappear does it?

I'll post pix when I get a chance to resize them.
