Teach Soap

I had some ash occur on a few types of soap I made recently so I tried spraying with rubbing alcohol but it has made it look worse. It has left the top covered in little raised lumps/bubbles. Anyone else had this before? Did I do something wrong? I am thinking the ash might be easier to clean up on the odd occasion that I get it as this doesn't look nice.

I read somewhere in these threads that ash was caused by cooling too fast and to prevent it make sure you cover your soap when it is freshly made. I also remember reading that it is harmless and to remove it wipe gently with a damp/wet sponge.

Thanks. It was only happening with certain FO so I was just trying to avoid it all together. I think it is going to be easier to clean the ash than the mess that the alcohol has made

I seem to sometimes get a little bit around the top outside edges more when I put it in the freezer than when I don't. I did scrub it off with a sponge and then waited a day to cut the soap.

Spritz with alcohol and buff with clean pantyhose.

Too funny! I haven't worn pantyhose since I left the corporate world. Now I buy them to use for mundane tasks like staking up my tomato and bean plants!

I know the voices in my head aren't real, but they sure have some great ideas!

Personally, I think that steaming is the fastest and easiest way to get rid soda ash. Just boil some water in a saucepan or a tea kettle and hold the soap over the steam for a few seconds. (Hold the soap with a paper towel, though - it can get slippery.)

I've been experimenting with soapbuddy's recommendation to use 1% beeswax. So far so good but the soaps haven't reached full cure yet. I will get that lavender to behave!
