I haven't used the second method, but usually go by ratios (parts). If you've added too much water GENTLE heating will evaporate it off again.I know this because I forgot a batch I was diluting on the stovetop a couple of weeks ago! :D Uh, yeah...

I may not be reading this right Coolah?

I ended up having just under 2kgs of soap paste, and added 2kgs of water before I read a reply I posted in the FB group that it should have been 500g of water instead. I've tipped some out, but nothing is mushing together so I'm assuming it will just be another bin batch.

Isn't this a 1:1 dilution? As in probably not enough water? I find it takes a couple of hours (atleast) on a real low heat to fully dissolve.

Reading it right Rochy. This is where my head just can't cope.

I thought it was a 1:1 ratio, but then when I read that it was 500g of water, I thought I had put too much. Arg, I don't know why this isn't making sense at the moment - probably brain dead due to two exams and a new study topic from school lol.

I'm going to try again tomorrow (3rd time lucky, right?)

My recipe is 1000g oils, 228g KOH and 684 Water.
Total amount: 1912g in the pot.

So how much water do I need to add to get a nice 'not too thick, not too thin' liquid soap?
Is it 500g? 2000g? Or 4000g?

Coolah's head goes kaboom!

I added way to much water the first time I made liquid soap. Now I just start with half was much water to paste and add in more as needed to get the thickness/thiness I want. I've tried adding salt when it was too thin, but that hasn't worked for me.
1# of paste to .5# of water + more water as needed. No math.

Hahaha - that was a game assumption!

i think where I am getting confused so much is that half the stuff out there says 1 part paste, to 2 parts water. And then the other half says 2 parts paste, to 1 part water. :?

I'm really hating liquid soap!!!!

I thought this batch was going to be ok, but after adding 500g of water to my near 2kg of soap base, it's watery liquid and keeps getting this layer of solid foam like crap on the top.

And it's not going clear - although I'm not sure if that's due to the goat's milk or 3% SF.

My paste ended up 6 parts water to 1 part paste. So your 1:1 ratio can probably use more water. Mine also took about 8 hours to dissolve!

My 85% Olive/15% castor liquid soap took way longer to dissolve than my recipe with more coconut oil. I didn't think I'd ever get it done!

You will find variances in dilution rates because different oils used will dilute at different rates.
