I am wondering if using micas in cp adds much color & does it come off when using the soap? Or is it only for top dressing your soap? Who likes it & who doesn't?

Yes, micas can add color, but it depends on which ones. Some can morph or fade. What did you have in mind? Did you take a look at BrambleBerry micas? http://www.brambleberry.com/Micas-C46.aspx
I don't use mica on top as that can stain.

I just started using micas in my CP after reading how so many other soapers used them. I love the colors I've tried so far.

Celine has a lot of colours from the conservatorie, my go to place other than BB. I've been testing the ones I got for CP stability and have only had trouble with one. Egyptian emerald is not CP stable. Unless you want a greenish-browny-grey ick colour! Will do a post on my test batches once I get my shop cleaned up.

Thanks for the replys everyone, I got mine second hand & a couple of the packs say "Not stable in high PH" so does that mean cp soap? Looks like I need to do a sample bar or two!! I think these originally came from TBK. What can I do with them if it doesn't work in cp?

Those are not stable in CP or HP. Best used for lotion bars, lip balms (if they are lip safe) and MP soap. Even a lot of TKBs "cp stable", or "high ph stable" micas really aren't. I have many that are supposed to be stable but morph horribly. I switched to for colours I can't get from BB.

I sprinkled a little black mica on top of my batch yesterday and then swirled it. A few hours later it had spread quite a bit, so I'm not sure what it will look like once I cut it. It might just be a black (more a dark gray) top.

Hey Heather, can't wait to see your tests from the Conservatorie. I have about 40 micas myself from them and working on the final baggies of colors this weekend. Is there a basic recipe you use to test with?
I'm trying to figure out a way to display all my tested colorants in my soap room so I can see them but I don't want it to take up the whole wall either.. Anyone have thoughts or ideas?

What about something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Akro-Mils-5705-Pl ... anizer+box that you could keep a small piece of each color soap. The lid would keep everything clean and the compartments would keep them tidy and you could use separate boxes for each color family.

If you poke the link below for my blog there is a post on the colour tests! I'll make a post here when I get some free time!

Thanks Linda! I just so happened to pick out something just like it at Hobby Lobby, only a little bigger. It works perfectly! Thank you for the idea.

Thanks for the post Heather. It helped a lot! :D
