Teach Soap

I'm a newbie getting ready for the first batch next week. I've got so many ideas of scents/colors/combos I've been writing them all down for when I get the basics behind me. For now, I was wondering if you could use cranberry juice (straight without any sugar of course...I plan to make my own) instead of plain water? Would the color hold in the CPS or should I add colorants to enhance the red? Have you ever experienced the colorants of your CPS to stain washcloths or cause colorful bubbles? Thanks!

Hi Amandazzzz! Welcome to the addiction!

If you've never made CP before, just make a couple of small (1#), plain batches using water so you can get an idea of the process and what trace looks like. When you start changing things (like using juice or milk) instead of water, you can run into problems. Also, be sure to run all your recipes through a lye calculator before making them.

Cranberry juice most likely will end up brown in CP and the natural sugars in the juice could cause your soap to overheat. If you add colorants, they can stain washcloths if you use too much.

Please start simple for your first batch. No color, no scent, so you can get an idea how oils and lye combine, what trace is, what gel looks like etc....
Most juices with turn your soap brown and can make your soap overheat, due to the natural sugars.
