Didn't like the first lip balm I made and hate to make another batch and waste more tubes. Do you think this would work?

5 grams Mango Butter
5.2 grams Shea Butter
9.9 grams Beeswax
2 grams Castor Oil
2 grams Grapeseed Oil
5.2 grams Olive Oil

Grapeseed oil has a short shelf life. I would leave it out. Between the olive and the castor it will be pretty heavy on the lips.
What didn't you like about the other batch you made? If you kept good notes, you could reformulate it and add what is lacking. All you need to do is just gently remelt it.

I thought the last batch was too waxy feeling, this is what my first batch was (I found it online):
1 Tablespoon Mango Butter
2 Tablespoons Sunflower Oil
1 Tablespoon Olive Oil
1 Tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon Beeswax

I put it on, wipe it off with my fingers to reduce the waxy feeling and my lips still feel waxy, though soft.

Please convert your recipe into grams. Teaspoons and tablespoons are very inaccurate; especially if you come up with something you like and you won't be able to repeat it.

Sorry, I did actually convert it to grams when I made it. This morning before work I just copied and pasted the original recipe I copied from online.

Hypothetically if you have
1 oz. of Mango Butter (18.18%)
2 oz of Sunflower Oil (36.36%)
1 oz. Olive Oil (18.18%)
1.5 ozs. of Beeswax (27.27%)
I would say that will be waxy. I would lower the beeswax to 20% and add the difference to your mango butter to equal 100%.

Sweet almond and avocado oil are nice light ideas for lip balms! I find olive too heavy and greasy.

I have just started to make some lip balms, at the request of my dtr. So I started with the one on the soap queen blog... cocoa butter, coffee butter, avacado oil. NO wax. The problem with this one is that it will get VERY soft if kept in my pocket. I love the smell of the coffee butter - and so does my dog as he ate about a fourth of one of my little pots. I can also see why many use the little tubes... would be easier to apply. I do like the avacado oil, but will try adding some beeswax next go around.

I use olive oil in mine but at a very small %. I also use peach kernel and apricot kernel oils along with shea, mango, and aloe butters. I also use candellilia wax instead of beeswax

I use almond oil or avocado oil, castor oil, mango or shea butter, cocoa butter (deodorized) and candellilia wax. Castor oil makes your lip balm shiny, so if you want just a moisturizing balm that isn't glossy I'd leave that out! I also LOVE jojoba oil in my balms, but it is a bit pricey right now. Lotioncrafter has it on for a good price right now though. Jojoba is very moisturizing in a lip balm!
