About a week ago I tried my hand at HP soaping. From what I saw on the video I watched, the soap was supposed to turn into itself, quite a few times. Mine never did. I mixed everything together, got it to thin trace then covered it up with the lid and walked away. LIKE in the video. Needless I came back to it about 15 minutes later and my soap had not turned into itself yet so I left it alone and went away. Came back 15 later same thing though it looked thicker, at 50 minutes it seemed to already be in the Vasaline stage!. It never turned into itself, I never got to turn down the heat or anything like that. When I saw it was at that stage, I gave it a stir, turned it to low and let it cook a little longer, then started watching the temp so I could add my FO. The F.O Flashpoint for my FO was 170. Total cook time was 2 hours in a crock pot stirred 4 times total. Cooled to 155, added FO, mixed that in and then glopped it into the mold. I left it in the mold for 4 days then unmolded it and cut. Its a very nice bar, still soft but I am waiting longer to see if it hardens up more. The Fo held up beautifully.

The recipe was as follows:

18 oz Olive oil
8 oz coconut oil
6 oz Lard
4.6 oz Lye
10.56 oz H2o
1.44 oz FO

This fo is also noted from Seller to color soap to a light mauve. I had NO color change what so ever. I think this is probably because I used the HP instead of CP.
My question is, DID I do something wrong that it didnt ever turn into itself?
Here is a pic of the cut bar.

I've done a couple of batches of HP, and they seemed to go as they should. I don't recall the soap "turning" on itself, but it did do what I saw a tutorial explain. (Raw soap island gets engulfed by a cooked soap sea!)

I did notice my hot process bars started out a bit soft. After about two weeks they are much harder. I used an olvie oil, palm oil, castor oil, coconut blend for the soap base.

How long was it in the mold before you cut it?

I made it 10-11-12 unmolded 10-13-12 and cut on 10-15-12 Even though I know HP is supposed to be ready to go, I wanted to make sure it is well cured and harder.

My HP soap never turns onto itself. I cook on low and stir from time to time.

Hi Irena..
Ok so I didnt do anything wrong! Wheeew! I was sweatin' that one. I am about to try another one. I have been working on a 100% vegetarian recipe and finally worked out the kinks on it so its within the right levels for hardness bubbly etc. I am going to use it and do 2 bars one CP and one HP. Anyone ever used paprika in a soap? as a colorant I mean. I am also going to put in some tea leaves in the CP one. I am using chai tea and sandalwood vanilla in the CP and adding the tea leaves. Then using the paprika for coloring in the other because its a citrus bar.

No, you're not doing anything wrong. Paprika can be scratchy in soap. I would infuse it, then strain out the bits.

You can use paprika as is, but for me, I find it too scratchy. It might be fine if you want an exfoliating bar.
