Teach Soap

I just recently started purchasing the lye beads from Essential Depot ( I was using BB lye prior). I have noticed recently that once I let the lye dissolve (to a clear) and walk away to let it cool off, I come back and notice a film covering the top of the lye water. I start to stir it and I get all these little flecs floating around. I take the temperature to see if it climbs while I am stirring it and it continues to drop, so I am not sure why the water it's not going clear. I am using a plasting container.

Is my lye not dissolving properly?

I got that cause I did a no no and washed my lye pitcher out with soap.

I'm sorry I didn't respond earlier. For some reason I haven't been receiving my emails when someone comments back even though I check the box. Yes, the lye is still usuable but Strain it if you can. If it's floating than it's probably not lye as lye sinks to the bottom.

Just rinse out your lye pitcher with plain water. That's all it needs.

You can strain the bits out and still use the lye water. Just make sure you use a lye safe strainer!

All you need to do to wash the lye container is a few good rinses with water.

Essential Depot offers both tech grade and food grade lye beads. Tech grade isn't necessarily as pure as food grade. Shipping isn't cheap either. Depending on where you live, Bulk Apothocary offers food grade for not much money and their shipping was cheaper to me in Las Vegas by about $12.
