Well my first batch seized almost instantly and attributed it to the NG Apple Cinnamon FO so I made my second batch and accelerated like a house on fire and the FO is one I have never had an issue with. This is my first fall soaping in Kentucky having moved here from Oregon. Could the temp and humidity difference be causing havoc or ???

The first batch I soaped at 110 degrees the second I soaped at 120 and it did much better.

Spice type fragrances will accelerate trace or can make the soap seize. Did you add the FO to your melted and cooled off oils before you added the lye or did you add the FO at trace?

Ohhh which apple cinnamon is it? The old one seizes and is not body safe. The new one isn't supposed to accelerate at all.

I just looked. If it's the Apple Cinnamon -ORIGINAL Fragrance Oil it's not body safe.

It was not the original it is the body safe version. I added to the cooled oils and the second batch at trace but they both seized...one riced heavily first and then seized...this is the one in the mold and it will have to be rebatched without a doubt.

Recipe:

7.34 oz Coconut Oil
3.67 oz Palm Oil
6.12 oz Castor Oil
4.89 oz Olive Oil
1.22 oz Avocado Oil
1.22 oz Shea Butter

Lye 3.43 oz Water 8.07 oz FO 1.07 oz

According to NG it has a max use rate of 5% and at 1/2 oz - 1 oz per pound

This is what it looks like, on the left the one on the right was a FO test batch using BBs Pinot Grigio which by the way I absolutely LOVE!

You moved from Oregon to KY and I plan on moving from Nevada to Oregon! Sorry about the soap issue. FO seem to just have a mind of their own and do what they want when they want despite our best intentions.

I'm beginning to wonder if it is the combination of castor oil and FO, because doesn't CO accelerate trace?

I'm planning a move to Eugene eventually. I want to get my 6 y.o. out of Las Vegas. I make good money here, but she has to sleep on a tiny cot on someone's living room floor, get woken at 5am to come home, get woken again at 7am to get up for school and I only get to sleep while she's in school. Also, the school system here is 50th in the Nation whereas it is 5th in Oregon.

There's no hope here for me to sleep at night. Also, I can see the handwriting on the wall. Work has already told us we make too much money and that we stink at our job. I'm trying to position myself with a game plan in case there's a layoff of us older folks (I'm 55 next month). All the new hires are being offered their jobs at significantly less money, part time, with no benefits.

Once I move to Eugene, then I'll be selling at Saturday Market to make my living. I plan to sell soaps, dog treats and eventually get my kitchen licensed as a domestic commercial kitchen and bake to sell my baked goods at Saturday Market too until I get a retail location. One of the local markets told me that they would be happy to carry my products. Of course, once I'm there it doesn't mean they will, but that would be awesome!

Eugene is a nice area...I was on the mountains on the redwood highway...I understand wanting to get out of LV for sure. Good luck to you and smart planning.

I use castor oil in evey batch with no problems. It's the spice oils that I sometimes have a problem with.

So maybe it was my FOs rather than the castor. I don't know, but they still turned out pretty!

Just be sure to stay vigilant for lye pockets!
