Teach Soap

Walmart also carries a Great Value all vegetable shortening. That's all I use when I need shortening because I'm allergic to pork. You can get lard and tallow at Smart and Final. You can sometimes get palm kernel oil at Sam's Club.

I can almost always smell lard/animal fat in homemade soaps....but this is probably from YEARS of living in fear of washing in animal fat. I'm sure it's a good soap, it just grosses me out.

If you don't heat the lard up too much or two quickly (just enough to melt thoroughly), the smell is minimized.

I've soaped with elk tallow and in the short term I could detect the animal smell. However, it cured out over time.
